Spartan owners training course

We found the Spartan owners training course held at their HQ in Charlotte Michigan to be absolutely brilliant and would highly recommend this to anyone who owners an RV with a Spartan chassis. There is also a refresher course available for those who have already been on the initial course. I’ve just uploaded a new video of the Spartan owners training course that we attended at the end of Oct 2017.

The course was great and we met some really amazing people who are now friends.

The big challenge for me with this particular video was that when I downloaded the video files to my laptop at the end of the week I discovered that I had absolutely no sound, so we had to do a voice over, which I have to say I think turned out OK.

What about the wife?

Julia did say that she would stay in the RV during the course as she had no real interest in chassis. Well Julia came in for breakfast one day and found it so interesting that she not only stayed the whole day but also attended the rest of the course. So it’s not just for men !

I suppose that the only slight downside is that there is no water or drainage available on side so you have to drive 3-4 miles to the fairground to dump your tanks. That said I know that they are trying to rectify this situation.

    Hi Glenn,
This was very outstanding video and I really enjoyed it. I need to try to get my wife to take one of these training courses. If your on Holiday, Enjoy.

      Hi Herbie,
The course was remarkably good and pretty casual, Julia sat in on as little and as many as she wanted to, so basically your wife could pick and choose the days to attend (like the Entegra tech day)that would be of interest.

Hi Glen wishing you and the family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Now down to the nitty gritty. Very good video re: Spartan. However a huge short coming. 1.) how did you find out about it ie thru Entegra or Spartan. 2.) What was the cost, (not including bar bill at the end).
Now back to a previous issue you brought forward regarding the rear mud flap. With your usual attention to detail, I was surprised at your solution. Tightening is not a solution in my opinion. Getting a shackle with an extended bolt with a cotter pin hole is the proper fix, easy to bend over and see that it is in place. I deal with motors and pumps and am very aware of vibration loosening. A side point that you may not know is that loosening due to vibration actually wears on the threads and they don’t tighten as well. Also if this is a known issue that is happening someone should be contacting the The National Transportation Board. As if they issue a recall due to this anyone who has the misfortune of this failure would be covered expense wise, as my understanding is if you suffer damage of a recall failure you have a very easy road to payment.
Keep up the good work videos are great and very entertaining. One more question have you driven a cornerstone with the turning tag and did you notice a difference or my bad I guess I should ask Julia as first time she was in a cornerstone and this time an Anthem so she is the experienced one. lol

      Hi Gary
      Thanks for your e-mail,
1.) how did you find out about it ie thru Entegra or Spartan. We actually found out about this from both Entegra owners who we met with on the road and from the spartan reps that are always at the Entegra rallies.
2.) What was the cost, (not including bar bill at the end). I think it was around $1,250 for the two of us including the food. Can’t actually remember what the bar bill came to !!!!
3.)rear mud flap. There are many way to secure this, I prefer the lock tight solution as it’s quick, easy and keeps it secure. Your suggested method is a better one I agree and maybe I’ll readdress this later on in a video.
Also if this is a known issue that is happening someone should be contacting the The National Transportation Board. This is not a recall, it should be but it’s not and Entegra will only do something if they absolutely have to.
One more question have you driven a cornerstone with the turning tag and did you notice a difference or my bad I guess I should ask Julia as first time she was in a cornerstone and this time an Anthem so she is the experienced one. lol I have driven many Cornerstones but none with the steerable tag, (it’s not actually steerable it just unlocks and turns a bit like the tow does.

Hi Glen Love the videos and am making my way thru all of them. Saw the one last night with the problem with your slide-outs and snow. Not sure if you came up with a solution other than not camping in the winter. If I may suggest a very simple and effective solution. Up here north of Toronto we have big issues with leaves in the eaves-troughs. We have a device that you can google gutter cleaning wand. When fully extended from the ground it is over 12ft high no ladders or climbing required. So run a garden hose from your wet bay preferably hot and at most it will take you under 5 minutes per slider. Get a more expensive wand all steel with a control valve on it. Mine cost $30 and has good pressure and durable. The upside to this solution is takes very little space and you know if you have it on the RV you will never need it again. Law of the obvious if I have a fix it never breaks. lol

    Amazon has them
    https://www.amazon.ca/Orbit-58543-Telescoping-Cleaning-Ratcheting/dp/B00CLOG5MK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1515963238&sr=8-1&keywords=telescoping+gutter+wand
There are a few types the orbit is close to mine . Will look up make and model of mine in my garage and today is -7 f so hope you can understand don’t want to go outside. Important part is connection want a garden hose as you want to just spray, power washer attachment may damage the material. Gary.

      Hi Gary
Yep that look like the kiddy I need, my only additional comment would be that it needs to be fed with HOT water as the cold water in snowy conditions would just freeze too quickly.
      Thanks for the product info.
      Regards
      Glenn

FYI: Spartan Motors is in Charlotte (pronounced Char-lot), Char-let is in North Carolina. This is one way we can tell we are talking to people who are not from Michigan. 🙂

    Travel safe.
