Leaving the US

We have delivered the RV to Lazydays where Spartan will be sending someone down to rectify the steering. We left Phoenix yesterday morning at 10:00am and didn’t get to our hotel in Chicago at 12:30am (2 hours time difference)

We are now back to O’Hare Chicago where we are picking up our flight to Paris, so probably another 20+ hours and we’ll be home.

Really looking forward to the discussion about the steering problem and the story about the “fix”. Can’t wait to hear your Spartan review as well. Enjoy your open and complete views.

      Hi Jack

I won’t have any answers until Spartan have sent someone down to Tucson to completely investigate and repair this bizarre steering issue. I will be telling them that if they can’t resolve it then they will need to replace it. Probably be a couple of months!
      Regards

      Glenn

Glenn, Barbara and I wish you and Julia a safe trip home. We will miss you at the Big Sky Rally. We enjoyed your “tips” videos. We hope your steering issue is resolved this time. Enjoy your time at home and let all of us know when you are returning. John and Barbara McCombs

      Hi Stevie Boy

Great to hear from you. I think the problem we have will be sorted but it’s just taking an age. We’re back in France now for a couple of months. So get in that sports cars of yours and get yourself over here. I promise I won’t get wasted this time.

Interesting steering story, been following your saga with great interest.

I checked out Spartan Chassis’s and they have been subject to numerous (50+) of recalls over recent years and noted a significant number of these recalls are for steering issues. It’s possible that Spartan do not have a sound design of how independent suspension on a large vehicle works. After reading through the recall lists I would not consider a Spartan Chassis as numerous similar steering issues keep occurring on various models and years. Appears Spartan may not have a learning curve.

I think that one of the biggest frustrations is the denial that they have a problem at all. I have had around 6 people contact me now and who have supplied me with their VIN numbers in the attempt to try and help Spartan highlight where and what is different with these RV’s that is causing the steering issues. They have pretty much just ignored what I sent them reiterating “we have to establish if there is a problem” which I find a bit of an insult.

Hi guys, did you ever sell your home in France?? That estate looks amazing! Cheers and hope to see you on the road.

    • GRT says:

      Hi Paul

We are still in the process of selling here in France but the EU refurendum is making people very nervous about anything to do with Europe. So it’ll happen as and when.
We intend to return around September when we hope that the Rv will be ready to roll fully checked and steering fixed.

Welcome back to Europe. How is the house? I bet it feels enormous after the Entegra!

    • GRT says:

      Hi Chris
It’s great being back although all I’ve done for the past 3 weeks is cut grass, one of the nice things about the Entegra is, it has no garden !!! just a fridge full of beer and cleaning is a breeze (not that I do any). You really should try this nomadic life style, the freedom is amazing. The food & wine here in France is worth coming home to

Check the “NHTSA” RV recall listings and you will see 5 separate recalls 3 of which concern issues with rear and tag axle mountings with no lock tight, front end steering issues. I recieved my copy from “independence RV”.
